So much for that PTSD theory.
The Army psychiatrist who went on a shooting rampage that left 13 people dead and 31 wounded at a Texas Army base yesterday screamed “Allahu Akbar” before he opened fire, witnesses said.
Maj Nidal Malik Hasan strode into a Fort Hood deployment center, shouting “God is great” in Arabic, before targeting military personnel and warning civilians to get out of the way.
He killed 13 people and wounded 31 others, including Fort Hood police Sgt. Kimberly Munley, who responded to the scene within three minutes of reported gunfire Thursday afternoon. She shot Hasan four times despite being shot herself.
Enough with the hand wringing. The families of the victims, their fellow soldiers and the American people deserve to know what motivated Hassan. And it’s becoming clear that it wasn’t alleged teasing by fellow soldiers.
Update #1: The following was heard on NPR this morning:. Credit to Instapundit for the transcription.
He gave a Grand Rounds presentation. . . You take turns giving a lecture on, you know, the correct treatment of schizophrenia, the right drugs to prescribe for personality disorder, you know, that sort of thing. But instead of giving an academic paper, he gave a lecture on the Koran, and they said it didn’t seem to be just an informational lecture, but it seemed to be his own beliefs. That’s what a lot of people thought.
He talked about how if you’re a nonbeliever the Koran says you should have your head cut off, you should have oil poured down your throat, you should be set on fire. And I said well couldn’t this just be his educating you? And the psychiatrist said yes, but one of the Muslims in the audience, another psychiatrist, raised his hand and was quite disturbed and he said you know, a lot of us don’t believe these things you’re saying, and that there was no place where Hasan couched it as this is what the Koran teaches but you know I don’t believe it. And people actually talked in the hallway afterwards about ‘is he one of these people that’s going to freak out and shoot people someday?’
I’m confused because Barry & Co. told us that without the porkulus unemployment would soar to 8.3%.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) — The unemployment rate hit 10.2% in October, surpassing 10% for the first time since 1983.
The Labor Department also said Friday that employers cut a deeper-than-expected 190,000 jobs in October. It revised job losses for August and September to show 91,000 fewer jobs lost than previously reported.
Analysts polled by Reuters had expected payrolls to drop 175,000 and the jobless rate to edge up to 9.9% from 9.8% in September.
Take your mouse and scroll over the graphic included in the story. If my math is right, 3,105,020 jobs have been lost since The One took office.
Could these two issues derail the bill?
The Washington Post reports.
As written, the House bill would allow plans offered through new insurance exchanges, setup for individuals without employer coverage, to cover abortion services. But the plans would be required to establish payment firewalls to prevent federal subsidies from covering the cost. Democrats opposed to abortion call that an accounting distinction and are seeking ironclad guarantees.
A compromise measure crafted by Rep. Brad Ellsworth, an antiabortion Democrat from Indiana, would require federal health officials operating the public insurance plan created in the House bill to hire a private contractor to pay abortion providers, thus avoiding direct federal payments. That language is acceptable to Democrats who support abortion rights, but not to many Democrats who oppose abortion, and House leaders were still working Thursday night to craft language that would win back a dozen or so of the 40 Democrats whose votes may be on the line.
The lawmakers made their case in a meeting with Obama on Thursday afternoon, but they said they received no commitment. Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-N.Y.) said that the Hispanic caucus has 20 votes riding on the issue and that if the language changes, “I guess they won’t have those 20 votes.” She said of Obama, “He listened to us, and he knows where we stand.”
If Democrats pass this bill with taxpayer funded abortion and coverage for illegal immigrants – criminals by their very definition – 2010 will be a bloodbath at the polls.
The death toll now stands at thirteen.
Hassan is on a ventilator and remains unconscious.
His home was raided early this morning.
Officials requested search warrants for Hassan’s computer. They are trying to determine if this posting was indeed authored by him:
NidalHasan scribbled: There was a grenade thrown amongs a group of American soldiers. One of the soldiers, feeling that it was to late for everyone to flee jumped on the grave with the intention of saving his comrades. Indeed he saved them. He inentionally took his life (suicide) for a noble cause i.e. saving the lives of his soldier. To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause. Scholars have paralled this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers. If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory. Their intention is not to die because of some despair. The same can be said for the Kamikazees in Japan. They died (via crashing their planes into ships) to kill the enemies for the homeland. You can call them crazy i you want but their act was not one of suicide that is despised by Islam. So the scholars main point is that “IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOUR INTENTION IS THE MAIN ISSUE” and Allah (SWT) knows best.
Fox News Story:
Military officials were starting Friday to piece together what may have pushed an Army psychiatrist trained to help soldiers in distress to turn on his comrades in a shooting rampage that killed 13 people and wounded 30 in Texas.
Authorities raided the apartment of suspected shooter Major Nidal Malik Hasan early Friday in a search for clues, as another victim died from injuries suffered during the worst mass killing on a U.S. military base.
Hasan was on a ventilator and unconscious in a hospital after being shot four times during the shootings at the Army’s sprawling Fort Hood, post officials said. In the early chaos after the shootings, authorities believed they had killed him, only to discover later that he had survived.
Federal law-enforcement agents ordered an evacuation of the apartment complex where Hasan lived in Killeen, Texas, and conducted a search of his home, said Hilary Shine, director of public information for the city. She didn’t say what was found during the search.
Officials said earlier that federal search warrants were being drawn up to authorize the seizure of his computer.
