Wikileaks’ Assange Wanted For Rape, Molestation In Sweden UPDATE: Warrant Recalled? UPDATE: One Charge Remains

SCROLL FOR UPDATES:

More of a dirtbag than we thought.

The founder and editor of the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, has been charged in Sweden with rape and molestation, a spokeswoman for the Swedish prosecutor’s office told CNN Saturday.

Spokeswoman Karin Rosander said the charges were filed Friday night in relation to two separate instances, but she didn’t have more detail about when the alleged crimes occurred or who the alleged victims are.

Assange denied the charges in a posting Saturday on the WikiLeaks Twitter page, saying, “The charges are without basis and their issue at this moment is deeply disturbing.”

Whaa-whaa.  Dude, did you consider that having your face plastered all over the news for the last month might have led to the charges?

UPDATE:  The warrant has been recalled.  (Thanks to PISSED for the H/T)

UPDATE:  The molestation charge remains:

Julian Assange, who was believed to be in Sweden, remained under suspicion of a lesser crime of molestation in a separate case, prosecutors said.
