Be thankful to Rep. James Lyons who made a very public demand for the numbers by refusing to leave the House chambers until the Patrick administration released the information. Now we know why the governor has been stonewalling on Lyons’ request since May:
The 58-year-old Andover Republican — who bucked Beacon Hill by holding a sit-in in the House chambers two weeks ago — pried the shocking report from state officials. It showed that nearly 55,000 illegal immigrants received more than $93 million in MassHealth benefits for emergency medical services last year.
I don’t want to hear another word about looming budget cuts or teacher layoffs when the state is spending close to $100 million a year on free health care for people who are here illegally.
This is the question a Democratic congressman from Obama’s home state says he is asked “wherever he goes.” What was the promise? Immigration reform…otherwise known as amnesty.
Luis Gutierrez was in East Boston yesterday to push support for the DREAM act….otherwise known as amnesty.
“We kind of made a covenant. There was a compact. You came to us and you said, ‘Elect me president of the United States and I will be your champion for immigration reform,’ ’’ said Representative Luis V. Gutierrez of Illinois. “Wherever I go, people say to me, ‘Luis, when’s he going to keep his promise?’ ’’
Gutierrez spoke on one stop of a 20-city tour he is calling the Campaign for American Children and Families, to condemn an increase in deportation orders and to draw attention to the tenuous lives of the children of immigrants who fear their families will be torn apart.
The usual sob stories were told to the usual suspects including Representative Mike Capuano of Summerville….otherwise known as a sanctuary city.
“They violated my rights as a US citizen. They violated my family’s rights as human beings,’’ she told the audience of about 250 people. Though she and her younger brother are citizens, she said, her parents have only temporary protection orders and her older brother is undocumented.
“I’m actually tired of this issue,’’ Capuano told the crowd, saying the country has a long history of viewing new waves of immigrants as suspect or undeserving of rights. “And I’m tired of it because it’s a new issue again, because it’s a long, long history in this country of always looking at the new wave of immigrants as somehow people who are bad, somehow people who don’t deserve rights. You’d think that we would have learned something from our history. And we haven’t.’’
Gutierrez warned that Obama could lose the Latino vote if he doesn’t bow to their wishes. This guy clearly hasn’t gotten the memo that Obama’s promises come with expiration dates.
The day of reckoning has finally arrived. Nationally, today is our day to send a very clear message to Obama and his Democrat pals in Washington. Locally, today is our day to send a very clear message to Cadillac Deval and his corrupt, hack Democrat pals on Beacon Hill.
In case you had forgotten (as if) here are a few reasons to get out vote, courtesy of Moe Lane:
Now, some of you (more of you, I suspect, than are willing to admit it) read the paragraph above, read the article that it links to, and then started to feel… pity. Or empathy, because it happened to you in 2006 and 2008. Or merely a natural desire to not kick someone when they are down. And those are laudable impulses to have. But before you act on those impulses with regard to these professional Democrats, please remember this:
- These people told their clients to say that you hate African-Americans.
- These people told their clients to say that you hate Latinos.
- These people told their clients to say that you hate gays.
- These people told their clients to say that you hate women.
- These people told their clients to say that you hate Jews.
- These people told their clients to say that you hate Muslims.
- These people told their clients to say that you hate the poor.
- These people told their clients to say that you hate America.
Shall I continue?
- These people told their clients to say that you were fascists.
- These people told their clients to say that you were theocrats.
- These people told their clients to say that you were stupid.
- These people told their clients to say that you were uneducated.
- These people told their clients to say that you were hatemongers.
- These people told their clients to say that you were insane.
- These people told their clients to say that you were violent extremists.
I can keep this going for quite a while, you know.
- These people told their clients to call you unpatriotic.
- These people told their clients to call you cowards.
- These people told their clients to mock you at every opportunity.
- These people told their clients to deliberately use a sexual slur when referring to you.
- These people told their clients to trivialize and dismiss your concerns at every opportunity.
And now these professional Democrats are sad because they’re going to lose. Well, they deserve to lose. Because they’re bad people. And because the entire point of the United States of America is to make sure that bad people lose. So go vote on Tuesday, and make as many bad people as possible lose.
Locally, how can anyone forget Deval’s Cadillac, his $10,000 drapes, his wife’s social secretary, the doling out of six figure jobs to his Milton neighbors, the attempt to plant a hack pol pal into a six figure job which had been vacant for twelve years, his broken promise to lower your property taxes, his broken promise to hire 1000 new police officers, his dismantling of the program that allows State Troopers to work with ICE to enforce our nation’s immigration laws, his support of drivers’ licenses for illegals, his support of in-state tuition for illegals, the refusal to let the citizens of Massachusetts vote on marriage, the 25% increase on the sales tax to 6.25% – including already taxed alcohol – and all the while local aid has been cut and your taxes keep going up.
It’s finally November…it’s time to remember.

Beleaguered Bay State and U.S. taxpayers coughed up a staggering $35.7 million this year in free emergency health care for more than 52,000 illegal aliens in Massachusetts, sparking outrage from candidates and critics who back a tougher line on immigration.
The figures — released by Gov. Deval Patrick’s administration under an order for the Secretary of State’s office and after more than a month of ducking questions — show illegal immigrants who belong to MassHealth Limited received $33.8 million in taxpayer-funded in-patient hospital care this year.
They also made 6,160 visits to the state’s overburdened emergency rooms in the fiscal year ending in June for an additional cost of $1.9 million, a Herald analysis shows.
And how’s this for breathtaking arrogance? Cadillac Deval won’t let anyone from his admininstration talk about the rage-inducing numbers.
The Patrick administration, which supplied the figures last week, refused to make state health insurance officials available to discuss them.
But critics were quick to blast the huge medical bill being footed by hard-pressed, law-abiding taxpayers.
“Incorporating illegal immigrants into any type of government-sponsored health care is legitimizing their presence here,’’ said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the conservative Center for Immigration Studies, which favors stricter immigration policies. “It’s a kind of piecemeal amnesty.’’
Added state Rep. Robert Hedlund (R-Weymouth), “It’s just another example in this state of working people paying the bills, and some people availing themselves of the benefits we have in the commonwealth.’’
REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER.
This might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read in the Boston Globe – and that is saying a lot. No matter that they are criminals and a drain on our society, this tool wants millions of them to flood our state to preserve a congressional seat. Oh, and in case you were wondering, it’s our fault they are called illegal because we have made it too hard to come here and feed off of the public trough.
The relative decline of our population compared to the rest of the nation has been the source of much soul-searching. Why don’t people want to live in Massachusetts? Some blame the weather, an unpersuasive answer if you’ve ever spent a summer in a growing state such as Georgia. Others blame our politics, our high housing costs, our taxes, and even our economy (it’s geared to college grads, and hence shuts out those of lower skills).
Solution: Illegal immigrants. Each member of Congress represents about 647,000 people. Get a few million immigrants to move to Massachusetts, and we’d start to get some muscle.
Which is what puzzles me about this paroxysm of anti-immigrant rage that has swept the nation, a paroxysm that has even made its way into Massachusetts’s gubernatorial elections. Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker has taken a tough line, supporting Arizona’s mean-spirited immigration law, ripping incumbent Deval Patrick for “siding with immigrants,’’ and vowing to put the State Police to work enforcing immigration laws. Patrick has been far better on the issue, but even as he decries “hate-mongering,’’ he agrees that “illegal immigration is a serious national problem.’’
Let’s deal first with this obsession over the word “illegal.’’ There is an easy assumption that “illegal’’ equates to immorality. But illegal immigrants are illegal because we have made it much harder today to be legal than it once was (did the Pilgrims ever have to show the Wampanoags their green cards?). Being illegal doesn’t make you a bad person any more than dropping the speed limit to 10 miles per hour would suddenly make those driving faster bad drivers. Indeed, if mere “illegality’’ was truly the issue, then you’d expect to see the anti-immigrant crowd pushing to loosen immigration rules.
Last night Obama’s Auntie Z. sat down for an interview with the local CBS affiliate here in Boston. Her arrogance and disdain for the people from whom she has been accepting handouts for the last decade was breathtaking. Sound familiar?
I guess we know what side of the family the arrogance gene comes from.
I don’t want to hear another word about this administration cracking down on illegals. Try telling that the the families of the murder victims.
A fatal federal red-tape delay may have left a suspected illegal alien accused of gunning down two people at a Lawrence birthday party free to roam the country while awaiting a March 2011 deportation hearing, the Herald has learned.
Dominican immigrant Fernando Guerrero-Lara, 27, was awaiting a March 7 preliminary removal hearing in U.S. Immigration Court in Harlingen, Texas, when authorities say he and a second triggerman unleashed a bullet bloodbath at a Labor Day birthday bash at La Guira Restaurant on Broadway in Lawrence.
Guerrero-Lara, charged in Texas with violating immigration law, was scheduled to appear at a so-called master calendar hearing on March 7, a preliminary step toward deportation, said Kathryn Mattingly, a spokeswoman for the Executive Office for Immigration Review.
When he and co-defendant Johan Saintclair, 30, were busted, Guerrero-Lara coughed up to cops he was the subject of an “arrest of alien” warrant issued Aug. 12.
Mattingly declined to elaborate on why the Department of Homeland Security was trying to give Guerrero-Lara the boot and referred questions regarding why he wasn’t being detained to Harold Ort, spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Ort would only say, “An ICE detainer has been placed on Fernando Guerrero-Lara and we are aware of Johan Manuel Saint Clair (sic) and will take appropriate action as the situation warrants.”
